Eco Schools Committee Update - May 2022
Barrow Hall’s Eco Committee was formed in the Spring Term of 2022. There is one member from each class ranging from Year 2-Year 6 and there is also an assistant in each class who help the committee member. Mr Littler (Headteacher),Miss Pari (Teaching Assistant) and Kim Moate (Golden Square Shopping Centre) are also part of the committee.
During our first meeting meetings we talked about the 7 step environmental review which contains things that we have to achieve during the year.
STEP 1-Making a Committee
STEP2-Enviromental Review
STEP 3-Action Plan
STEP 4-Curriculum Links
STEP 5- Informing and Involving
STEP 6- Monitoring and Evaluation
STEP 7-Eco code
We have carried out an ‘Environmental Audit’. This was to find out what the most important areas were for us to address. We already have solar panels on our roof which and we try to get students to walk or ride their bikes to school.
We have used this to complete our Action Plan. Our three priority areas are: Waste, Marine and Litter.
Already the Eco Committee have:
- made sure that all the cleaning products that the cleaners use are Environmentally friendly.
- recently installed two shelters on the school grounds and they both have wind turbines on top which is useful for science experiments outside.
- started planning to go to a Landfill Site to see what happens to the waste after use .
One of the main aims of the Eco Committee is to make our school a ‘Zero to Landfill’ organisation .We are lucky enough to have a staff member from the Golden Square Shopping Centre as a member of our committee. The Golden Square are also trying to become Zero to Landfill. They are also trying to make the upper floor on top of the building a green roof which gave us some inspiration to add lots more plants to our school site.
We appreciate if you could help the world and the environment : ‘just a little change can make a BIG difference in the world’.
We hope you take this letter meaningfully and will join us on our journey.
