Who we are
The governing body at Barrow Hall Primary School is made up of people with different skills who combined give a more rounded input to the school. They represent some of the different parties with vested interest in the school including parents, staff, members of the local community and the local authority all of whom have a focus on the continuing success of the school.

Chris Forrest
Chris Forrest – Chair of Governors, Safeguarding Governor

Term of office end: 13th October 2022Chris joined the Governing Body as a Parent Governor in March 2010, becoming Vice Chair in September 2012 and Chair in 2014 . He has lived in Whittle Hall for more than 18 years and has two daughters, both at Great Sankey High School. Chris is a fair weather cyclist and enjoys supporting the school in any way he can.

Michael Clews
Michael Clews

Term of office end: 13th October 2022Mike joined the Governing Body in 2008 when his daughter started at the school. Born and bred in Great Sankey, Michael attended local schools, and is a time served multi-skilled engineer with 21+ years’ service. Also father to two boys, both at the school, it is his wish to improve the school, with the aid of his professional skills, to make it the safest and most enjoyable educational environment it can be.

Appointed by: Governing BodyJohn joined Barrow Hall as Headteacher in 2013, his previous post was Headteacher at Locking Stumps Primary School in Birchwood, a position he held for over ten years. Prior to this, he was Deputy Headteacher at Locking Stumps and taught at two primary schools in Widnes. John has two children, Billy and Eva, and spends any spare time he has indulging his obsession with Manchester United.

Term of office end: 13th October 2022Aswad joined the governing body as a parent governor in March 2010. He has lived in Great Sankey for more than 16 years, is married and father of two boys, who have attended the school and now moved onto high school. Aswad works in a Sales/Commercial role within the IT industry, he plays golf and also enjoys watching football and cricket. Aswad is passionate about the school and committed to ensuring that the school environment is enjoyable and a rewarding experience for the children and staff, enabling the children to fulfil their potential.

Term of Office end: 15th February 2025Julie joined the Governing Body in September 2016. A resident of Great Sankey, and a former pupil of Barrow Hall, Julie is keen to be part of a team that promotes learning and encourages children to reach their full potential on their school journey. With a Master’s Degree in Child Psychology and a career history in social research, Julie is keen to use her valuable skills, knowledge and experience in the role of Governor to support the school to be the best it can be.

Term of office end: 17th May 2023Imtiaz joined the governing body as a parent governor in July 2017. He has lived in Great Sankey since 1998, is married and a father of three children, all who have attended(ing) Barrow Hall.
Imtiaz runs his own sports coaching company and is an avid football fan both watching and playing. He is also the General Secretary of the Warrington Islamic Association where he helps the local Mosque and community, delivering fundraising charity events, open days, outreach programs and the management of the community hall.
Imtiaz has always played a role in helping the school from volunteering at school events to providing a short course to the children on presentation skills and public speaking, something he is very passionate about. Imtiaz is keen to ensure the school is run at its best for the benefit of the children and that every child has the best educational start in life at Barrow Hall.

He has two daughters: Lucy currently attends Barrow Hall Primary School and Emilia is set to follow in her footsteps soon. Lee is the Headteacher of a large secondary school in Liverpool and has worked in education for 20 years. He is passionate about schools and communities, believing that schools should be moral centers for the communities that they serve. He is proud to work with Barrow Hall in that regard. Outside of education, Lee is committed to his family, his football and his cycling!

Leyla has lived in Great Sankey for most of her life and has two children who currently attend Barrow Hall. Leyla has worked as a Curriculum Lead in Business and Computing for 17 years in a range of secondary settings most recently at successful High School in Warrington and is now working for a large University in Digital Technology Degrees and master’s Apprenticeship programmes supporting employers throughout the UK meet their IT skills requirements. Leyla is keen to utilise upon her educational experience to assist the school in developing further opportunities for learning and development. Leyla is a keen football fan and also plays for a lady’s vets’ team and coaches a local girls’ Under 10 football team.

Term of office end: 31st August 2022Claire is a Reception teacher and is the EYFS Lead in her ninth year at Barrow Hall. Having been appointed as Acting Deputy Headteacher in September 2019, Claire joined the Governing body as an Associate Governor. Claire became substantive Deputy Headteacher ins September 2021. Claire is passionate about giving the children who join Barrow Hall in Reception the best start in their learning life. Outside school life, Claire enjoys travelling around the world and experiencing life in other countries. She improves her mental health by walking her two cocker spaniels.
As an Associate Member of the Board of Governors, Claire does not have voting rights.

Term of office ends: 21st November 2023Kelly was elected as parent governor and has two children who attend the school. She has lived in the local community for most of her life. Kelly has worked in education for 13 years as a SENDCO and SEN teacher across a variety of settings including specialist education and currently works as a social, emotional, mental health (SEMH) specialist teacher at Penketh High School. She is passionate about ensuring all children can succeed regardless of any barriers to learning and hope to support the school in continuing the excellent work they do to support all children and their families at the school.

Term of office ends: 8th May 2023Mary has been part of the Barrow Hall community since 1990. She has had a varied career here, as headteacher, deputy headteacher and latterly as a supply teacher. She has a wealth of experience in teaching and remains passionate about learning. Away from Barrow Hall Mary is a devoted grandmother. She is very proud to continue her commitment as a governor.
